The Umoja Center's Inaugural Kwanzaa Event: Ujamaa In Practice

Please join us at The Umoja Center's inaugural Kwanzaa event: "Ujamaa In Practice."

On this 4th day of Kwanzaa we celebrate Ujamaa ("cooperative economics"). The creator of Kwanzaa, Dr. Maulana Karenga, encourages African people to embrace the principle "to build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together."

In this celebration & conversation, we will lift up and discuss the vision of African leaders Julius Nyerere & Kwame Nkrumah who saw a return to our ancestral communalism and shared decision-making as a means of building community and economy.

And in this praxis moment we will highlight several Black-led cooperative economic projects, including a couple of Crenshaw Subway Coalition's very own.

Light African refreshments will be served.
