This is Part 2 of 2 of our Gentrification 101 Orientation for Crenshaw Subway Coalition and the general public. While we welcome the participation of all, we ask that only those who have attended Part 1 attend this Part 2.
The "g-word" is becoming one of the most talked about community issues in urban areas across the world. As development focus now heads south of the 10 freeway, the pressures of increased housing prices are being felt in South Los Angeles like never before.
In our Gentrification 101 Orientation we discuss and help answer important questions like:
- What exactly is gentrification, and who is driving it?
- Why is it happening in diverse urban areas across the country and world?
- Why is it particularly harmful to Black Americans?
- What is art-washing and stadium-washing?
- How can it be fought while promoting better neighborhoods with the same neighbors?
We ask all attendees review the following material that will be referenced in the teach-in prior to attending: http://www.crenshawsubway.org/gentrification101
We look forward to you joining us.
