Gentrification is the biggest threat to the stability of the Crenshaw community & the biggest proposed gentrification project is the Crenshaw Mall redevelopment. It is the biggest proposed development being considered in the City of Los Angeles. The majority of the new construction is NOT to renovate the retail section or add stores, but rather to add 961 market-rate condos/apartments unaffordable to the surrounding community. Additionally, the Chicago-based developer's proposed local hire "goal" is just 10% - an insult. For more info about the project see our statement: "Crenshaw Mall Redevelopment: 'Urban Cleansing' by Another Name"
